I learned this method at a sewing class sixty years ago. I have taken up friends bridesmaids dresses easily. Now I am older I cant get that seam so tiny anymore, but it still works great with a teeny bit wider seams. My fifty plus year old Bernina 830 still sews chiffon like a breeze. I do own a rolled hemmer but would never bother using it even though when I got my machine the lessons that come with it made it look a viable option. But the method Shae shows us works perfectly every time.

Thank you for this! It would help to have you demonstrate on video how you get the right tension for a variety of fabrics. Especially knits and silky light fabrics … the tension on those is intimidating enough not to try them! 😅

Please consider expanding this topic for women who have the extreme apple shape so that we look like we are pregnant. I have many maternity jeans, and now maternity underwear and maternity pantyhose. The difference is that I would like a bit more support to my stretch to hold that flabby lower belly in place. I would like to have more information about stretch fabrics that can be used to make normal pants into maternity pants. I don’t fit in the waist of ANY pants. If the pants fit my belly, they are way too big for my hips. Also, the pants do not stay at my waist since there is no waist for them to hold onto - the pants are always sliding down. So maternity styles hold the pants up by going over my belly while also reducing the terrible panty line under my dresses. I can’t be the only person with this issue!

First time finding the channel and I'm hooked! I honestly couldn't tell you how many episodes I've watched in the last day 👀 Question! I have to hem my bridesmaid dress for my friend's wedding and I've watched both your videos on the narrow roll hem stitch and this video on the new narrow roll hem "hack". The fabric is pretty much exactly the same as the in the narrow roll hem video (silky satin) but the way you do it in this video looks like there's less room for error... I could be wrong. But then of course Shae uses the literal same fabric to my dress in the other video so I'm torn. Which technique should I use for hemming the dress? Any guidance would be appreciated :)

love this video. it's so hard to find clear information about this stuff. i have a video suggestion for you... i would love to see you change the threads so they're each a different color so i can see how the stitch it makes weaves together on the fabric.

A topic request: would you please make a video on fitting and altering off-the-rack structured shirts for women with different bust sizes from the norm? My understanding is that many shirts are designed with a B cup in mind because it looks good on a hanger, even though the average in the US is DD. I'm a narrow-shouldered D-cup, so whenever I find something that fits well in one place, it usually doesn't in another. Thanks from a new subscriber and person who occasionally alters and makes clothes and costumes, looking forward to learning much from your channel!

No sewing is not dying. What I believe to be true is the fact that the industry and companies that rely on skilled sewing staff has dropped the ball where teaching is concerned. I worked for Stitch-It in Canada when I was 25 years of age, (31 years ago) and even then I observed that not all long-time sewers had the best skills. I was lucky and had the opportunity to be trained by a tailor that had great skills and lots of time saving techniques. At 25 years old, my sewing skill surpassed those that had been sewing form many years. Back then finding qualified staff was a challenge. I remember writing a letter to the company president (this was long before email) suggesting that they construct a school of sorts to teach a new crop of alterations specialists the skills required. This course would streamline processes and ensure that all work was complete in the fastest way yet with quality results. I offered to help with this project back then! Needless to say that I did not hear back from anyone. Fast forward 30 years, and I was once again working the the same company and now finding skilled sewing staff was even more challenging. Throughout my sewing career I have multiple companies asking me if I know of others who can sew because they are looking for them. I even had a high-end boutique in Naples Florida contact me here in London, Ontario Canada, to ask if I would be interested in relocating to work for them. They were offering $25.00 per hour plus full benefits. I was unable to accept, but my biggest question was why were they calling me here in London, Ontario? Were there no qualified applicants in their area? They told me no. In 2019 I was able to launch my online sewing school teaching clothing alterations as a trade and for personal use. I will be upgrading the material over the next year and adding new videos. I enjoy watching you and I love how you let your cheerful personality shine. Great work!

Yes…but… if you have to remove too much from the outseam, it can get tricky merging out smoothly before the pocket over the hip, that’s why I have to unbalance them sometimes.
